The kind folks over at Cocopiel sent me a package a while back. Cocopiel is an online retailer based in Korea and they have an array of merchandise ranging from circle lens, accessories, false lashes, wig etc everything that makes a girl pretty, if not prettier.

I don't know about you girls but I am not blessed with huge eyes unlike some or rather most of you lucky girls, so apart from makeup, I can only count on circle lens to make my eyes look bigger.

I remember I first started wearing circle lens back when I was in Poly and since then.. there's no turning back. I have tried circle lens from various brands and let's just say that bigger doesn't always mean better. I guess it applies to everything else, you really have to try it for yourself to determine what suits you and what doesn't.

Personally, I prefer lens that are about 14-14.2mm as they look more natural and I don't look weird in them even if I don't put on mascara or paste double eyelid tape. Having said that, its not that I don't like lens that are 14.5mm in diameter. I don't deny that it is pretty and it makes my eyes look wow! which you can see from my display picture on the sidebar of my blog. Surprising, 14.5mm circle lens ain't drying and that particular brand that I bought felt quite comfortable throughout the day. Its just that if I don't paste double eyelid sticker and put on mascara, you won't be able to see much of white in my eyes and I think it looks a little weird or even to the extent of looking a tad freaky.

For your convenience and reference, I have done up a table below that shows the diameter of circle lens from brands that I have tried just in case anyone needs something to refer to before getting circle lens.

Before I start getting all hyped up about sharing my experience with circle lens and digress from the main focus of this post again, let me share with you girls the circle lens that I'm wearing currently.

It is from Cocopiel and its called Tattoo Black.

My thoughts:

Although the swirls can't really be seen when worn, I still like how it looks on me because T.Top-Tattoo Black makes my eyes look so anime-like! I'm not sure if you can see, but somehow when I wear T.Top-Tattoo Black, there's like a white ring in between the black center and outer black ring, similiar to the effect where you use ring light to take photos.

Plus, it makes my eyes look more vivid or 有神 in Chinese. In case you didn't realised, I only had double eyelid tape and mascara on when I took the pictures above.

As always, its not recommended to wear contact lens for more than 8-10 hours. I normally take them off the first thing when I reach home.

Did you spot the scrunchie I had on my side ponytail? Its from Cocopiel as well! I haven't used a scrunchie since my Primary or Secondary School days prior to this.

I was playing around with my hair while taking photos for this blog post, that explains why I had my fringe pinned up in one photo and let down in the other. Tell me which do you prefer - fringe up or fringe down? I would love to know!

If you have read my previous post on Air Tickets and accommodation booking for my 7D Korea Free and Easy Trip in Nov/Dec 2012, you probably remember that I chose Zaza Backpackers Hostel & Guesthouse (자자 백팩커스) (ザザ バックパッカーズ ホステル) over Namsan Guest House (남산게스트하우스) (南山ゲストハウス).

I booked our stay at Zaza Backpackers Hostel & Guesthouse via Zaza Backpackers website 3 months before our arrival date. Although no downpayment is needed, you will have to confirm your reservation 3 times via email.

1. 30 days before your check-in date
2. 15 days before your check-in date
3. 5 days before your check-in date

This review will solely focus on my experience at Zaza Backpackers Hostel & Guesthouse. As we reached Incheon International Airport at 0445, we took the first airport limousine bus no. 6015 at 0535 after clearing the customs and getting a drink at Dunkin Donuts. It takes about 1 hour 20 minutes to get to Myeongdong from Incheon Airport.

Although it was the first time that we were in Korea, we didn't have much difficulty locating Zaza Backpackers Hostel & Guesthouse after alighting at Sejong Hotel. The only thing was that it was so cold that we had to seek shelter at a nearby enclosed ATM to read the map for directions.

Tip: Cross over to the other side of the road via the traffic light instead of the Subway underpass if not you will have to lift your luggage up and down the stairs.  

Zaza Backpackers Hostel & Guesthouse is on the right before the convenience store, Mini Stop. I missed Dubu Restaurant's sign hence I went to Mini Stop (convenience store) to ask for directions. The guy working in Mini Stop was really nice, he even came out of Mini Stop to point us to Zaza Backpackers Hostel & Guesthouse even though it was really cold out there. Turns out that we just had to turn right before Mini Stop and Zaza Backpackers Hostel & Guesthouse is up on the slope. Not to worry though, the slope isn't as bad as it sounds as my mom and my 16 year old cousin can lug their luggages up themselves without help.

Check in

The normal check-in timing at Zaza Backpackers Hostel and Guesthouse is at 2pm but since we reached at 7plus in the morning, we left our luggage with the staff there and set off to our first destination, Gyeongbokgung Palace.

When we came back in the evening, Zaza Backpackers Hostel and Guesthouse staff brought us to our room.

To enter our room, we had to exit the main door that houses Zaza Backpackers Hostel & Guesthouse office as well as other few rooms and enter from the side door.

I guess they gave us that room because I told them that I am travelling with my 16 year old cousin and my Mom and I was afraid that I have to lug the luggage up the stairs plus I requested for a quiet room. Initially, we were rather skeptical about our room because the fact that we have to brace through about 10 steps from our room's door to the side door and maybe another 10 or 15 steps to the main door to get to the office (lounge) in open air at about 7-9 degrees is no joke.

If you are concerned about safety like I was initially as we had to go through the side door to get to our room as it can get rather quiet at night, there's nothing to worry about actually because there are not just one but a few CCTVs installed near the side door. I believe there's only two rooms that requires to guests to pass by the side door to get to their rooms,  

We were quite thankful that we did not get the rooms next to the office or above the office as you can hear other guests talking in their rooms quite clearly. 

Office/lounge

There are computers in the office which one can use to surf net or just sit down on the sofa to chill.

In case you are wondering why would we need to go to the office (lounge), its to refill our water bottles, make coffee or tea, which we definitely need to every morning to brace the cold weather (there are tea bags and coffee sticks provided by Zaza Backpackers Hostel & Guesthouse) or to make Skype calls back home. We called Grandpa and Uncle and they were like, "Oh my, that must be expensive!" and we went, "No, not at all. Its free because its Skype call!" The good thing about it is that you can call landlines. But if the other party has got a smartphone and Skype app installed too, you simply call them in the comfort of your  room.





The office only opens at 8am. Before that, the office door is closed as Zaza Backpackers Hostel & Guesthouse staff will be resting inside. Hence, you won't be able to go in to get water, coffee, a new change of towels or use the computers or phone before that.

Payment

We made full payment in cash (Korean won) on the first day of arrival at Zaza Backpackers Hostel & Guesthouse before checking in to our room.

After bringing us to our room, Zaza Backpackers Hostel & Guesthouse staff passed me the WiFi password and he also gave me Zaza Backpackers Hostel & Guesthouse's Line username so that I can 'line' them if I need any help without having to walk to the office. I thought that this was pretty thoughtful of them, no?

Without further ado, let's take a look at our room. We booked a 'double room with extra person'.

Room

Cable TV with multilingual channels and hair dryer


Our messy table filled up with my Binggrae banana milk (빙그레 바나나 우유), my cousin, Ebony's strawberry milk and our leftovers from Two Two Fried Chicken (the radish is so so so good). Try spotting my thermo flask in the background, a must-have during winter time as hot water is such a lifesaver in the freezing cold weather.

I must say that I'm quite happy with the fact that Zaza Backpackers Hostel & Guesthouse do provide hairdryer and a table mirror which I can use to apply my skincare and makeup. Best still, its not inside the bathroom which is more convenient as another person can use the bathroom while the other blowdry her hair outside which saves more time and we can head out earlier!

Honestly speaking, with the price that we paid, we weren't expecting so much bed space. I mean, check out what's in there for us.

This can easily house 5 people and there's only like 3 of us. I guess if there's really 5 people in this room, walking space will pose as a problem as for us as I don't think you can possibly bring your luggages up to the second floor (or rather tier) where the Korean floor mattress bed lies. During our stay there, we normally chuck our luggages underneath the bed so that we will have more walking space. 



Private (En-suite) toilet and shower room



Toilet and toiletries

One of the reasons why I chose Zaza Backpackers Hostel and Guesthouse for our stay in Korea is partly due to the part that it has an en-suite toilet (the toilet is in the room). The toilet and shower room is really basic. It is good enough for showering and what nots but I advise that you do not bring your change of new clothes in when you shower if not it will get wet. Either get someone to pass it to you or if privacy isn't a big issue (eg. when you're travelling with friends of the same gender or maybe your family without anyone of the opposite gender), it might be better to get dressed outside.

There's no toiletries provided apart from toilet paper and towels which you can get it yourself from Zaza Backpackers Hostel & Guesthouse office. I have no problems with bringing my own toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrush etc but I would have preferred if they did provide a floor mat. It would have been so much more convenient. Thank God that we did bring our own towels so we just used one of our own towels as the floor mat and threw it away on the last day.

I was quite worried about the water heater not working properly as it was Winter when we were there but thank God it didn't give us any problems. Its not that much of a fuss if you shower with cold water, you will be fine if you remain in the room as the heater is on but once you step out of the room, you will feel the chill.

Travel adaptor

Fret not if you did not bring along your travel adaptor or if you need an additional one, just ask the friendly staff at Zaza Backpackers Hostel & Guesthouse. They will be more than happy to provide you with it.

Trash

You will have to segregate your trash before putting it into the bins on the steps of the staircase facing Zaza Backpackers Hostel & Guesthouse's office.  

Housekeeping

Generally, they don't do housekeeping. We stayed there for 7 nights and there was no housekeeping. It didn't quite bother us because we were out most of the time. The only time we were in Zaza Backpackers Hostel & Guesthouse is to sleep. Mom said that she felt very 'safe' as she didn't have to worry about packing and locking our luggages since no one comes into the room during the day to do housekeeping while we are out.  

Air-conditioning and floor heating

As it was Winter when we were there (24 November to 1 December 2012), we only used the heater. In case you are wondering, its won't be cold when you're in the room. You can wear T-shirt and shorts, its fine. If it gets stuffy, open the windows but make sure you don't open the mosquito screen, I'm sure you won't want to invite them in.

Staff

Zaza Backpackers Hostel & Guesthouse staffs are very friendly and helpful. For those of you whom are afraid that there might be communication problem, fret not. Zaza Backpackers Hostel and Guesthouse staffs speak pretty decent English for Koreans. Just make sure you slow down when you talk because typically, Singaporeans tend to talk too quickly. I have been told by my colleagues from UK that I speak too quickly umpteen of times before.

I was on Skype with another cousin of mine, Si Ling and she was telling me about an optical shop in Myeongdong but we couldn't find the address despite googling it in English hence I asked a staff from Zaza Backpackers Hostel & Guesthouse for help. I told him the name of the shop in English and he translated it into Korean and it turns out that they renamed the shop's name to something else. No wonder we couldn't find it in English!

The staffs are generally helpful. Don't assume that they don't understand what you're saying just because they don't answer you immediately. Most of the time, I think they are processing their answers - translating from Korean to English as for most Koreans, English is not their first language.

There's another guy whom is always in the office in the day before we head out and at night when we get back to Zaza Backpackers Hostel & Guesthouse. My cousin, Ebony calls him the iPad guy (Mr iPad) because he's always on his iPad. We secretly suspect that he is the boss because he looks immaculate all the time. He always have his coat on even when he's indoors and his hair is always in place while the rest of the staff are normally in training suits. There was a day when we were refilling our bottles, preparing to head out and this guy (not sure if he's a staff of Zaza but he was on close terms with the iPad guy and the other Korean guy whom was manning the office) whom was panting badly and have just entered the room asked us where were we heading to that day. Boy, he spoke very good English and even had an American slang to it. Let's call him Mr American. I told Mr American that we were planning to go up to Namsan Tower by foot in the evening and the iPad guy was talking to Mr American in Korean which I obviously don't understand fully. Mr American told us that Mr iPad suggested not to go up to Namsan Tower by foot because it will be too cold and he even told us where to take a bus up to Namsan Tower.   

Check out

Typically, the check out time is 10.30am, but we had to leave Zaza Backpackers before 8am as our return flight departs at 1015. Hence, I asked the staff the day before how we should check out and return the key to them. Turns out that its as simple as A-B-C, just leave the key in the room and close the door after you and the door will be locked automatically.

After filling up a form that addresses my skin concerns and areas that I would like to improve on, I was brought into the treatment room. 

After Aiko (Aesthetician) removed my makeup, Josie (Aesthetician) analyzed my skin condition before deciding which treatment I should go for. I was recommended to go for Blemish Clearance Renewal Treatment.

Blemish Clearance Renewal Treatment This treatment manage acne with fruit acid, instead of the use of strong chemicals. It controls sebum production, tightens pores and improves overall skin texture. It does however causes a slight tingling sensation.

My thoughts:

Both Aiko and Josie are very conscientious. They kept asking me if I felt okay during the extraction and when the fruit acid peel was applied on my face.

The extraction wasn't that bad, it was very bearable apart from the area near my eyes. In fact, I almost fell asleep during extraction as I had a long day at work.

When the fruit acid peel was applied, I did not feel much tingling sensation. It just felt a little warm. After less than 5 minutes when Aiko wiped off the peel with a neutralizer, I felt that my face getting warmer and I experienced a little tingling sensation which was very bearable. 

The after redness on my face wasn't as bad as I expected. 

Here's how I look right after the treatment, sans makeup and no photoshop!

Mordecai Skin staff commented that my skin glows and look brighter after the treatment. 

The following day, you can spot a little redness on the parts where I had extraction done but it can be  easily concealed with BB cream. My colleague didn't even realised that I went for a facial, he merely thought that I headed to the gym to work out early in the morning. According to my colleague, it looks like an after exercise glow. 

I realised that after Blemish Clearance Renewal Treatments, the size of my pores become smaller and that my skin feels tightened and smooth to touch. In fact, I find that makeup glides on very easily after the treatment.

Beauty tip (after fruit acid peel):

- Avoid staying in the sun for too long
- Avoid using hot water to wash ur face
- Apply sunblock

Within a week after doing fruit acid peel, you will experience peeling on your face. For me, I experienced peeling at the area around my nose and undereye. The peeling should should go after a week as it did for mine.

My thoughts:

I remember when I was a little girl, whenever I said that I can't sleep, Daddy would spray this Lavender linen mist on my pillow and he said that it helps to relax one's mind.

Whenever I feel stressed or had a long day at work, I will squeeze Napiers Lavender Rejuvenating Gel from the tube onto my palms, hold my palms close to my nose and inhale about 3 times to calm my senses before applying it onto my temples. I find that it helps me to relax and sets me in the right mood for my yoga practice. Apart from that, I usually apply Napiers Lavender Rejuvenating Gel on my arms and legs after showering at night. Upon application, you will feel a cooling sensation which makes it perfect for the humid weather in Singapore. I think it would be ideal especially after swimming, a day at the beach or even to cool down your body temperature on a warm night.

If you were to touch your skin right after applying Napiers Lavender Rejuvenating Gel, it may feel a little sticky, not to worry though because once it fully absorbs into your skin, it isn't sticky at all and in fact, it makes your skin feel very smooth!

I like how gentle it is that I can apply it over the cut that I have on my elbow and yet it doesn't sting. 

In terms of scent, Napiers Lavender Rejuvenating Gel has a light lavender scent that isn't too overpowering. The scent is more detectable when it is freshly squeezed out from the tube and during application. It becomes a little faint after a while. Hence, I think that this would suit my Aunt as she is a fan of lavender scent but my Uncle can't stand the scent of lavender.  

Napiers Age Defiance Corrective Skin Cream

What is it:

Traditionally used for shrinking and removing skin tags, fading age spots, unusual skin marks, freckles or sun spots, reducing signs of sun damage and evening out skin pigmentation. Suitable for all skin types, particularly maturing, ageing skin. Can be used as a daily moisturizer.

Contains:
- Sweet Almond and Coconut oils: easily absorbed by the skin

My thoughts:

Although it states that Napiers Herbal Age Defiance Corrective Skin Cream can be used on the hands, neck and face, I use it primarily as a hand cream.

I never really started using hand cream on a daily basis until I started working. In fact, I didn't see the need to. But now, I have grown so accustomed to applying and reapplying hand cream each time after I wash my hands. Okay, maybe it is also due to the fact that my hands tend to get dry easily nowadays due to the fact that I stay in air-conditioned environment for at least 8 hours from Monday to Friday. Furthermore, hands reveal a person's true age. I remember my Visual Merchandising lecturer commenting on my hands when I was still in Poly. He was like, "Patricia, if I just saw your hands and not your face, I would have thought its an old lady's." The skin on my fingers are really wrinkled if you see the picture below.  

Well, because.. I'm not the grandma working in the sake brewery (酿酒婆婆). You will understand what I meant if you have watched SKII Facial Treatment Essence's ad before. Apparently, most of the elderly workers in the sake brewery have extraordinarily soft and youthful-looking hands due to constant contact with the sake fermentation process.

As how my Mom puts it, "I have no idea why your hands are so rough even though you don't really come into contact with chemicals or detergent. And its weird because your hands are a little rough since you were young." I must justify that I do help with housework in case you guys think I don't.

Thus, regular hand creams don't really work for me. I need those that are thicker in terms of texture.

Let's see how does Napiers Herbal Age Defiance Corrective Skin Cream compare to regular hand creams in the market. Napiers Herbal Age Defiance Corrective Skin Cream is richer in terms of texture as compared to regular hand creams.

In terms of scent, I think it smells rather citrusy while my cousin said that it smells very much like Bandung (rose syrup) and my colleague commented that it smell almond milk. The reason being -  Napiers Herbal Age Defiance Corrective Skin Cream contains rose oil, almond oil and lemon oil.

Beauty tip: Apply hand cream to cuticles too for better and healthier-looking nails!

After applying Napiers Herbal Age Defiance Corrective Skin Cream, my hands feel softer, smoother to touch.

My thoughts:

Ziaja Goat's Milk Hand Cream has a fresh scent that resembles that of baby powder. It has a gel-like/lotion consistency which absorbs quickly into the skin.

I like how it makes my hands feel so soft and smooth after application, similiar to that of what you get when you apply silicone primer onto your face.

Best of all, it is non-greasy!

Goat's Milk Creamy Shower Soap

What is it:

Nourishes, smoothes and makes the skin more elastic.Intensely moisturizes and prevents excessive water loss. Ph balanced, does not disturb the protective epidermis layer.

Key Ingredients:

Provitamin B5 (d-panthenol), goat's milk complex

My thoughts:

I remember my Uncle raving about how awesome Goat's Milk shower cream/foams are for moisturizing and brightening the skin. Before trying Ziaja Goat's Milk Creamy Shower Soap, I haven't tried any Goat's Milk bath products before.

I think that Ziaja Goat's Milk Creamy Shower Soap smells like baby powder. In terms of consistency, Ziaja Goat's Milk Creamy Shower Soap has got a medium consistency which foams slightly but not till the extent of working out a lather. I like how my skin feels after showering with Ziaja Goat's Milk Creamy Shower Soap. I think that it moisturizes my skin very well and doesn't strip my skin off its natural oil unlike some shower creams or gels out there in the market. The scent and texture does remind me very much of Johnson's Baby Milk Bath.

I also noticed a slight brightening effect after using Ziaja Goat's Milk Shower Soap consecutively for 2 weeks. 

Aside from that, it acts as a deodorant too! I'm someone whom perspire a lot and even a short walk from my place to the MRT Station would leave me perspiring badly. I'm not quite fond of deodorants personally because they darken the armpits. While I do have perfume sprayed on a daily basis, I'm pretty bothered still when I perspire especially at the armpit area. The only way that I can keep myself from smelling stale is to dab my armpits dry and wipe it with wet wipes upon reaching office. But still.. whenever I clean my armpits, I can smell my perspiration. However, after using Ziaja Goat's Milk Shower Soap, I was surprised that even when I perspire a lot, I don't smell stale and when I dab my armpits dry, I can actually smell the scent of Ziaja Goat's Milk Shower Soap!

If you are following me on Instagram, you would probably know what I have been up to and what has keeping me busy these few weeks. Yes - its my Cousin, Li Xuan and Cousin-in-law, Jia Ye's wedding last Sunday, 6 October 2013.

While prepping for their wedding, I came across a number of Chinese traditions which I found to be quite interesting and thought that I would share it with you my lovely readers. Even though I'm 100% Chinese, I am quite oblivious when it comes to Chinese traditions. Plus, I have many friends whom got engaged recently or is getting hitched soon hence I thought it would be good to share some ideas and information on Chinese Weddings as a whole.

Betrothal Gift Exchange (Guo Da Li 过大礼)

Up to a month or at least 3 days before the actual wedding day, the groom’s family will deliver betrothal gifts (聘礼) to the bride’s family. The gifts to be exchanged in a Chinese Customary Wedding differ across dialect groups.

To avoid confusion, do note that the traditions that I'm sharing in this post is based on the dialect group, Teochew.

Typically, the betrothal gifts include -

1) Western and Chinese wedding cakes

2) Peanut candies

3) 2 bottles of brandy

4) Pig trotters (replaced by canned ones in modern days)

5) Even number of tangerine or oranges

6) 2 pair of dragon and phoenix candles (龙凤烛)

7) Betrothal jewellery from the groom’s parents for the bride (四点金)

The bride is expected to wear the betrothal jewellery on her wedding day or during the wedding banquet for relatives to appreciate it.

Two weeks before their wedding, Li Xuan and Jia Ye including Li Xuan's family delivered the Wedding Cakes (Xi Bing 喜饼) to Li Xuan's relatives by hand along with the wedding invitation.

Let's take a look at what's in the package.

There's both Traditional Chinese Wedding Cakes, Western Wedding Cakes as well as two cans of pig trotters.

Let's check out the Traditional Chinese Wedding Cake that is from Gin Thye Cake Maker (锦泰饼家).

1. Teochew Wedding Traditions (潮州传统喜饼) - Wu Se Tang (五色糖) 

Wu Se Tang 五色糖, loosely translated as Five Colored Candies is atraditional wedding gift from a Teochew bride to her relatives. Wu Se Tang 五色糖 consists of Dou Sha Bing 豆沙饼, Ming Tang 明糖, Dou Run 豆润, Dou Gong 豆贡 and Lao Ma Gao 老妈糕.

The Dou Sha Bing 豆沙饼 comes in both sweet and savoury (salty). Did I mention how much I love Dou Sha Bing 豆沙饼? I like it with either coffee or milo for breakfast.

Personally, I prefer Dou Run 豆润 and Dou Gong 豆贡, 2nd and 3rd from the bottom of the picture above because they are hard, similiar to that of nougat compared to Ming Tang 明糖 and Lao Ma Gao 老妈糕 which are softer in texture. The Lao Ma Gao 老妈糕 is a tad too sweet for my liking but I quite like how fragrant the sesame seeds are on it. According to my Taiwanese colleague, Ming Tang 明糖 is only available during certain festivals and that it is her brother's favourite.

Now onto the Western Wedding Cakes which is from Pine Garden's Cake.

I was so excited when my cousin told me that these were from Pine Garden's because despite hearing so much about Pine Garden's cakes, I haven't tried them for myself yet. It is till the extent where almost every other person I know rave about how awesome it is and whenever I ask for recommendations for cakes be it for my 21st birthday or family/friends birthday, someone will mention Pine Garden's Cake.

According to my cousin, Pine Garden's Cake is known for their Lychee Martini cake (2nd row, 3rd from the left). If you were to ask me, my top 3 favourite cakes from Pine Garden's Cake would be Lychee Martini Cake, Blackforest Cake and Cheesecake. I like how their cakes ain't too rich hence you won't feel too sick after eating them. They even have Pulut Hitam Cake which I'm quite keen on trying out next time!

My thoughts:

At the launch event itself, a fellow blogger told me, "If you like SKII Cellumination Essence, you will love SKII Stempower Essence." Me being me, I'm always skeptical so I was like, "really meh?" deep inside my heart. Just the other day, I had a whitening mask on. On the following day, the skin around the sides of my forehead started flaking and itch. 姐妹 Jiemeis (Sisters)

姐妹 Jiemeis (Sisters) are in general, family members or friends of the bride whom are not yet married helping out with the wedding preparations and on the actual day itself. 

姐妹 Jiemeis (Sisters) are commonly more notoriously known for coming up with weird food concoctions for the groom and his 兄弟 Xiongdis (Brothers) during gatecrashing games. 

Other duties and responsibilities of 姐妹 Jiemeis (Sisters) include - 

- overall-in-charge in ensuring flow of programs 

- 'time-keeper'

- hold the train of bride's dress when she walks, get into/out of the car etc

- fuss over the bride, making sure she is comfortable (get her water, wipe any perspiration away etc)

- receptionists during wedding banquet

- emcees during wedding banquet

  

1) Sisters/Jiemeis dress shopping

On the top of our to-do list was to find our 姐妹 Jiemei (Sisters) dress. Similiar to Western counterparts, it is ideal that the 姐妹 Jiemei (Sisters) have identical dresses or at the very least, dresses of the same color.

I guess a lot of times when it comes to searching for that perfect dress for that special occasion, it all boils down to one question, "Where exactly to get it?" If you read Sean Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, habit 2 says "Begin with the end in mind." Me being me, I'm not gonna deny how reliant I am on social media. Whenever someone pose me a question, my colleagues would go like, "Wait a minute, Patricia needs to ask her best friend, Google." I usually start off by googling for ideas of where other people get their dresses for that particular occasion and most of the time, there's a picture of them wearing it. And if I like it, then I know where to get it or at least narrow down my search.  

Our hunt for our 姐妹 Jiemei (Sisters) dresses started at Far East Plaza (FEP) in Orchard. We decided on FEP because the bride, Lixuan suggested it. FEP is very popular with teenagers and young working adults. I have been getting streetwear from there since I was a teenager and I still shop there for work clothes.

To sum it up, we checked out these two shops in Far East Plaza before deciding on our 姐妹 Jiemei (Sisters) dress.

Off-the-rack dresses from Love Potion start from $70 onwards. They do offer made-to-measure services too at additional charges. We got our Tiffany blue henkaa convertible dress ($39.90) from Shereen in the end because it is convertible (we can decide to wear the style that fits us best). 

We were quite proud of our efficiency because we found and got our dresses in less than an hour's time! Don't say I didn't pre-empt you, if you're thinking of getting the same convertible dress that we did from Shereen, do go down at least a month ahead because they need to place the order with their supplier.  

Who pays for the 姐妹 Jiemei (Sisters) dress?

In our case, my cousin aka the bride, Lixuan paid for our dresses. As a rule of thumb, if the wedding couple have specific requirements for 姐妹 Jiemei (Sisters) dress such as color, design etc then they are expected to pay for the dress. If there is no specific theme to be followed, then the wedding couple can choose not to pay for the 姐妹 Jiemei (Sisters) dresses.  

2) Sisters/Jiemeis Shoe shopping

Ask any fashionista and they will tell you, "No outfit is complete without heels". 

After browsing through countless shoe shops (Mitju, Pazzion, Trois + Inch, Prettyfit, Heatwave) in Orchard and browsing through the shoe department of various departmental stores such as Tangs, Isetan and Takashimaya, we finally decided on the pair of nude heels ($33.90) above from DMK. 

3) Manicure/Pedicure session with the Bride 

Apart from the wedding gown, bridal heels, bridal hairdo, bridal jewellery, bridal makeup etc, one of the most talked about must-do before the big day is none other than... bridal nails (manicure and pedicure).

A few years back, gel nails were all in the rage. Nowadays, most brides opt for gelish (also known as soft gel or soak off nails) instead of hard gel/buff off nails as it is lightweight, flexible, more natural and easier to remove compared to the latter.

Here's Lixuan's bridal nails. She opted for a timeless classic french manicure with glitter and Swarovski crystals.

We like how Lixuan's manicurist make her manicure more fun by using glitter polish on both of her ring finger.

As one of Lixuan's sister (jiemei) 姐妹, of course I had to do my nails too! Although I am quite adventurous when it comes to my nails and know the latest nail art trends from Korea or Japan, I like how I can count on Nailz Treats' staffs for nail art recommendations or ideas. They are very flexible in the sense that if I see something I like from 3 different pictures, they can tweak the design to accommodate what I like which I think is superb (think personalization!) because I will have the one and only nail design that differ from others! 

Because I love watercolor and galaxy nail art, bows with a bit of character (think K-pop and K-fashion!) instead of the plain ol' sweet princessy look, this is what my manicurist came up with. 

I had a lot of people including colleagues, friends, fellow bloggers and random people on Instagram telling me how much they love my nails. In fact, my nails were very much of a conversational starter whenever I meet anyone new these days.

For my pedicure, I chose a neon orange from China Glaze and a midnight blue from OPI. My manicurist was telling me that alternate colored nails is a big hit in Korea now. In fact, the neon orange reminds me of a Korean makeup brand, 3CE.

4) Gatecrashing games planning and preparations

Here's an overview of the games that we decided on. 

1) Post-it harlem shake:

Objective: To shake off post-it note within a stipulated time

2) Skipping on Healthy mat (Running Man inspired)

Objective: To skip barefooted X amount of times on the healthy mat

3) Food Relay (Running Man inspired)

Objective: Each person to finish his allocated food and whistle before the next person can start eating his. To complete food relay in X seconds. 

The amount of preparation work required will vary according to the gatecrashing games that Sisters (Jiemeis) 姐妹 have decided on. 

1) Purchase/prepare logistics/items required for games

- Post-it notes

- Double-sided tape

- Portable speakers

- Timer (use handphone)

- Healthy mat

- Skipping ropes

2) Food preparation 

Normally, the sisters (jiemeis) 姐妹 will prepare the 酸甜苦辣 (sour, sweet, bitter, spicy) concoction for the groom and his brothers but we decided to do away with it as we heard quite a number of horrifying stories like how it results in the guys having stomach upset and all. 

For food preparation, all we did was stuff wasabi into Collon biscuits. For the food relay, most of the food didn't require much preparation. We only needed to boil the egg, boil some water for the cup noodles, steam the kee zhang (plain rice dumplings) as the other food items are dark chocolate, popsicle and coke which didn't require any preparation.  

3) Rules of games

The rules of the games MUST be defined before the actual day so that the sisters (jiemeis) 姐妹 can explain the rules of each game to the brothers (Xiongdis) 兄弟 on the actual day. 

Eg. Stop shaking when music stop. To eat 1 wasabi-filled collon biscuits for each post-it note left on their body. 

The sisters (jiemeis) 姐妹 can also take this chance to ask the Groom to bribe them with red packets (angpows). 

Eg. Total post-it notes left on Groom and all brothers (Xiongdis) 兄弟 is 50. Groom can bribe the sisters (jiemeis) 姐妹 with red packets (angpows) to reduce the amount of wasabi-filled collon biscuit to half.

4) Role and responsibilities 

- Set up cum logistics: To lay out the equipment needed for games.  

- Game IC for each game: To explain the mechanics of the game. 

- Timer: To keep track of the time for each game and to make sure that the games end on time as Chinese in general are very particular and superstitious when its comes to timing for weddings.

There are several ways to get to Myeongdong from Incheon Airport. 

1) Airport Railroad Express (AREX) subway

2) Seoul Metropolitan Subway

3) Airport limousine buses

4) Taxis

The most economical and convenient way would be to take the airport limousine bus like I did from Incheon Airport. Why do I say that it is more convenient taking the airport limousine bus? This is because you won't have to lug your luggage up escalators and long walkways for transfers as you will if you were to take a train.

The next question that you have in mind would probably be, "Where to get airport limousine bus tickets?

1) Exit from Gate 11.

2) You will see the Bus Ticket booth on your left.

As I did research on which bus to take beforehand, I just went ahead and told the lady at the counter, "3 tickets for bus 6015 to Myeongdong". 

We got our one-way airport limousine bus ticket for 10,000 won (approx SGD$11.40) per person.

You probably spotted the area circled above on the bus ticket. This is to let you know where you can board your bus. For bus 6015, you can board it at 5B and 12A.

Initially, we were waiting at 12A for the first bus but we couldn't board it as it was already full when it stopped at 12A. It turned out that a lot of people were queuing up at 5B instead. The bus conductor at 12A told us to go to 5B instead so that we will have better chances of getting up the next bus and true enough, we did!

Like the airport limousine bus in Taiwan, the airport limousine bus in Korea have undercarriage luggage compartment along the side of the bus. The bus conductor will help you to place your luggage into the undercarriage luggage compartment and tag your luggage with the baggage tag before passing you a copy of it for identification purposes.

If you have hand carry luggage, you don't have to worry about whether a not to bring them up the airport limousine bus because there's a special area dedicated to hand carry luggages.

My thoughts:

Boss Jour Pour Femme has been my daily to go fragrance for work for the past 2 months hence I thought its time that I share my thoughts on it with you guys.

I must say that Boss Jour Pour Femme is not your usual sweet, girlie floral scent. If you were to ask me a few months ago, what kind of scent do I prefer? I woud say, sweet or floral. In fact, when I first had Boss Jour Pour Femme on, I thought that it was rather strong in scent but overtime, I grew to love it.

It smells very classy, expensive, elegant and I think it somewhat exudes masculine traits which reminds me of strong empowered women - ladies whom know what they want. The scent is more to a fresh and citrusy scent intially and then more to jasmine and woody scent.

Although the scent lingers on my skin throughout the day, I must say that it isn't very long-lasting.

I think that Boss Jour Pour Femme is good for work, business meetings/presentations, dinners and high-end teas.

My thoughts:

I don't know about you girls but I always refer my base makeup products as, "That BB cream for weekend use", "That BB cream for school", "That foundation for formal events", "That foundation for interview" and just recently, I discovered "That BB cream for work"!

I have been using Diorsnow UV Shield BB Creme on a daily basis for work for more than 2 months and I thought that it is time I share my thoughts on it. Good things are always meant to be shared, no? Talk about coincidence, I just shared about my daily to go fragrance for work in my previous blog post.

Personally, I would want to look presentable for work yet I don't want to be too over-the-top by piling on too much makeup. 

Whenever I have Diorsnow UV Shield BB Creme on, I get comments from colleagues and friends that my skin look flawless and some of them even asked if I'm using any base makeup as it looks very natural according to them.

I like Diorsnow UV Shield BB Creme's pump packaging which I think is very sanitary.

The coverage of Diorsnow UV Shield BB Creme is quite impressive for a BB cream, similiar to that of a foundation with light to medium coverage. For Diorsnow UV Shield BB Creme, a little product goes a long way - you won't want to pile up on this, trust me.

I usually apply Diorsnow UV Shield BB Creme on my face with my fingers. I think that by doing so, the natural heat from my fingers makes it glide onto my skin easily. I usually use Diorsnow UV Shield BB Creme alone without powder.

I like how Diorsnow UV Shield BB Creme matches my yellow toned complexion and not leave a gray cast like how other BB cream does on me. Diorsnow UV Shield BB Creme gives a satin finish (in between dewy and matte). 

In terms of oil-control, I think it does a fairly good job as it doesn't make my nose go shiny until maybe 3 or 4 hours after application.

The only cons that I can think of would probably be the price tag that comes along with it and that Diorsnow UV Shield BB Creme tend to turn to powdery finish rather fast so you will have to be quick with application and when blending.

Hi lovelies, its almost mid-November - the season when everyone start planning or looking forward to that year end trip. The most common and popular destinations are Taiwan, Hong Kong and Korea. I blogged about my Taiwan and Hong Kong trips previously but I haven't really blogged about my Korea trip last year. Guess what triggered this post? Well, I was asked by many where to shop and where to eat in Korea. So here it is - presenting to you.. the first post of where to eat in Korea.

As with every other Singaporean (maybe I'm stereotyping but then again we are a nation whom love our food), I usually hunt down the must eat and must have food prior to any of my trips. Today, I'm going to share with you one of the must eat when you are in Korea - Tosokchon Samgyetang 토속촌 located near Gyeongbukgung station. A must-try especially if you are near the vicinity, say after visiting Gyeongbokgung Palace!

Getting to Tosokchon Samgyetang 토속촌 (土俗村参鸡汤):

Walk out of Gyeongbokgong Station from Exit 2.

There are 2 flight of stairs that lead you out from Exit 2. You should see the landmark below before continuing to walk straight. *Note: Do not cross the zebra crossing from here.

You will pass by Baskin Robbins and Popeyes.

Continue to walk straight all the way until the first junction you see with zebra crossing, turn left and you will see Tosokchon Samgyetang 토속촌 (土俗村参鸡汤). 

We were there around 11.15am and there's already a queue!

Nearest subway station:
Gyeongbokgung Station, Exit 2

Directions:
Go straight about 170m and turn left onto Jahamun-ro 5-gil Road.
Tosokchon (토속촌) is located 10m ahead on the left.

Opening hours: 10:00 - 22:00

Tosokchon is known for its signature samgyetang삼계탕 (chicken ginseng soup) made with glutinous rice, gingko nuts, ginseng, garlic and jujube as well as 30 different types of medicinal herbs and grains.

It was frequented by Late President Roh Moo-hyun.

Took these shots while queuing up to get into Tosokchon 토속촌 (土俗村).

Ebony and I looking very excited for our 1st meal in Korea.

Don't be put off by the queue, it moves rather quickly. I can't remember exactly how long did we queue to get in but it was definitely less than 10 minutes.

You will have to take off your shoes before entering the dining area.

Tell me how not to love eating in a hanok (traditional Korean house)? #sokorean 

Can't read Hangul? Not to worry because there's English translation on Tosokchon's menu.

If you're afraid that there might be language barrier difficulties, let me assure you that Tosokchon's staff understand and can communicate in English and Chinese so there's nothing much to worry about!

As we are not big-eaters, we ordered a Samgyetang삼계탕 (Chicken stew with Ginseng) and Haemul Pajeon해물파전 (Savoury pancake with spring onion) to share.

Tosokchon serve their Samgyetang삼계탕 (参鸡汤) along with Ginseng wine. We were served a shot of Ginseng wine each. Apparently, you are supposed to down the shot of Ginseng wine before tucking into the bowl of Samgyetang 삼계탕 (参鸡汤). I took a sip and it was like, "Wow, this is real Ginseng wine." Its quite strong in the sense that I wouldn't drink it pure just like that but I like it when I pour it over Samgyetang삼계탕 (参鸡汤). Ebony was unreceptive to try the Ginseng wine while Mommy down the shot of Ginseng wine at a go. She liked it and she said that it helps to warm up her body. It was about 7°C that day and we were freezing especially on the lower body because we only had jeans on.

   

Tosokchon Samgyetang삼계탕 (土俗村参鸡汤) contains glutinous rice, gingko nuts, ginseng, garlic and jujube as well as 30 different types of medicinal herbs and grains.

We really like the soup. It is very flavourful, not too oily or salty. In fact, it have this sweet aftertaste to it. We just drank it the way it was served to us without adding any extra condiments like pepper and salt. I did dip my chicken into the pepper and salt combination to try as our server told us its best eaten this way. Did I mention how soft the chicken is? Not forgetting that it was served piping hot which is perfect for Winter! We had no problem polishing the entire bowl of Samgyetang Tosokchon Samgyetang 삼계탕 (土俗村参鸡汤) off. 



Haemul Pajeon 해물파전 (Savoury pancake with spring onion), 15 000 KRW



Haemul Pajeon해물파전 is basically seafood pancake with spring onion. It contains prawns and squid. Personally, I like spring onion but if you are not too fond of spring onion like Ebony, you will have to be prepared to pick them out because its really overloaded with spring onion.

Its a very generous serving that we couldn't finish it despite it being very good.

I'm very fond of pancakes be it seafood pancake or kimchi pancake. The ones that I normally have in Singapore be it in Korean restaurants or over at the food court (my favourite is Kim Dae Mun, Concorde Food Court) is normally the thin ones. But the Haemul Pajeon해물파전 at Tosokchon 토속촌 (土俗村参鸡汤) is really thick which I like because you can taste the batter.

for some tongdak통닭 (roasted chicken) that I didn't managed to try during this trip.

My thoughts:

The first thing that brought my attention to after I unwrapped the plastic wrapping of Dolce & Gabbana Pour Femme Intense was – the box.

I own a couple of perfumes and they all come in pretty boxes with either gold embossing, flower motifs or pretty illustrations but this is the first time that I have seen a perfume box with velvet finishing which reminds me very much of Victorian chokers.

Dolce & Gabbana Pour Femme Intense is very powdery or musky as how some will put it. I think that it is very feminine especially with detectable hints of vanilla and marshmallow. It is a sweet fragrance without smelling too young.

Because we all know how subjective fragrances can be, its either you like it or you hate it. Hence, apart from just me reviewing Dolce & Gabbana Intense EDP, today I have a guest reviewer, Joanne to share her thoughts on it with you.

If you haven't already know, my Mom is a big fan of Olay. She said that she literally grow up with it because she have used Olay products since she was a teenager and she's still a fan of it now. Her favourite products include Olay Total Effects 7-In-1 Anti-Ageing Night Cream and Olay Total Effects 7-In-1 Anti-Ageing Eye Cream (also recommended by Kevin Zhou aka Kevin 老师 on Taiwan Beauty Variety Show, 女人我最大.

What is it:

The star product of the Olay AquAction range, this lightweight gel immediately enhances the moisture level of dry skin with just one application. In fact, it continuously moisturizes and locks in water for up to 24 hours, to deliver “pump-pump” bouncy skin.

When I first opened Olay Aquaction Long Lasting Hydration Gel, the first thought that came to me was, "Wow. Its in blue." I don't know about you but I haven't seen or tried any gel moisturizer that is blue in color before.

Olay Aquaction Long Lasting Hydration Gel is rather lightweight which is good for combination or oily skin. I don't know if its just me or what but I felt this cooling sensation upon application. After the gel moisturizer sets in, Olay Aquaction Long Lasting Hydration Gel doesn't feel as sticky as it does when you first apply it onto your face.

I wake up to smooth skin the day after using Olay Aquaction Long Lasting Hydration Gel. For people whom spent long hours in air-conditioned environment, I recommend using a serum prior to using Olay Aquaction Long Lasting Hydration Gel to make your skin even more moisturized!

Personally, I would recommend using Olay Aquaction Long Lasting Hydration Gel at night instead of the day because when I used it under my regular sunblock, it emphasizes my huge pores. :X

Hi lovelies, if you have been following me on Instagram, you probably know that I had 7-8 inches of the length of my hair snipped, permed my hair the first time in my life and also had my hair colored including some highlights.

As clinche as it may sound, I walked into Xpect Studio over at Orchard International Building not knowing what to expect.

For those of you whom are not familiar, Orchard International Building is actually just beside Shaw House, Shaw Lido, Isetan Scotts.

Xpect Studio is in the same building as the very pretty TCC which has got chandeliers and Victorian-style furnishings. To get to Xpect Studio, just walk straight all the way from where the white arrow is (entrance of International Building) and you will see Xpect Studio.

Wei Ling(Salon Manager) was my stylist for the day.

Wei Ling asked if I had any idea of what I want to do to my hair and I was like, "Hmm.. color perhaps?" She suggested perming and showed me some ideas of what she think suits me.

In case you are wondering what's the hairstyle that she showed me, here it is!

She was telling me that we could chop off the length, perm the ends (c-curl) and do soft rebonding on the top to make my hair less frizzy and cut bangs (cuz I told her my previous stylist didn't want to cut bangs for me as he claims that it will make my face look too squarish).

You know girls being girls, we need a lot of reassurance and trust that our hairstylist know what they are doing before letting them handle our hair - especially when I have long straight hair since 2010!

In the picture below, you can see Wei Ling trying to help me visualize the end result of my hair.

Actually, I have meant to go for shoulder length hair since my previous hair cut but my stylist then said that it would make the bottom of my hair curl in a messy way since my hair was rebonded. Hence, when Wei Ling suggested shoulder length, I was actually squealing in delight. I mean of course deep inside I was half debating - what if I miss my long straight hair? So many what ifs came through my mind. But I told myself, "Change is the only constant." And I can't simply just have or live with my straight long hair forever right? I don't know if its just me or what but somehow, I have become so much more conservative especially when it comes to changing of hairstyles and also in terms of dressing compared to when I was much younger. Can you imagine I once had a bob haircut with steps at the back and my fringe was half bangs half slope with one side of my hair longer than the other?

Here's an obligatory 'before' shot before snipping off my long tresses. Ah, I look so sleepy in here. :X

In case you are wondering, I rebonded my hair in 2010 and had my hair colored twice since then.

Here's Wei Ling hard at work - trimming my tresses to a 'U' shape close to a straight line which is all in the rage currently instead of 'V'. 

BYE-BYE LONG HAIR! We will meet someday.

After my haircut, Wei Ling and Zhi Qiang started prepping my hair for perming.

Did I mention that Wei Ling and Zhi Qiang work very well together? They have been working together for very long so Zhi Qiang knows what Wei Ling wants without Wei Ling having to prompt him every now and then.

In case you haven't realised, Wei Ling and Zhi Qiang really work together hand in hand. Most of the salons that I go to, if I opt for Director, the Director will simply cut my hair and leave the rest (shampooing, coloring, treatment etc) to his or her assistant. But at Xpect Studio, Wei Ling (Salon Manager) does perming, coloring side by side together with Zhi Qiang!

After Zhi Qiang clipped my rolled up hair to this machine (I don't know what is it called) but I call it the octopus because I think it resembles one, I asked Wei Ling about perming after care.

And because sharing is caring, I have put down the questions that I asked Wei Ling and her answers just for you!

Q: Do I have to apply any hair oil to my hair after perming?

A: Just use your regular hair serum will do.

Q: How long do I have to wait after perming before I can shampoo my hair?

A: Its best to wash your hair 2 days after perming your hair.

Zhi Qiang kept asking me if I'm nervous because this is the first time that I'm perming my hair. He is very attentive in the sense that he make sure that I feel comfortable. He kept asking if I feel sleepy or if I need to go to the ladies.  

After Zhi Qiang checked my hair, the rollers were removed and my hair looked like this from the back.

Did the picture above shocked you? You are probably thinking, "Ajuma max or something along that line." But fret not because this is not the final result.

After perming, its time to straighten my hair from the roots.

Wei Ling calls this soft rebonding. She says that this will make my hair look less frizzy and yet not flat like conventional rebonding.

After which, neutraliser was applied to my hair and left on for a while before it was rinsed, followed by shampooing of my hair.

Ta-dah! Here's my new hairstyle - bangs with shoulder length hair with c-curls.

Pardon my excitement but because its my first time perming my hair, I went overboard taking pictures of my hair. Here's how my curls look like from the back and the side.

I went back to Xpect Studio at Orchard International Building 2 days after I permed my hair to... color my hair!

I showed Wei Ling a couple of pictures that I found online of Korean hairstyles with the hair color that I like. 

I particularly like the hair color of the Korean girl in the white dress. I can't quite describe the color but its somewhat a hint of burgundy and milk tea color. And if you were to look at it carefully, there's like two-tone color, similar to that of highlights but not as obvious-looking as highlights. When I asked Wei Ling about it, she told me that its actually highlights but the colors used are rather close to each other hence its not the I-CAN-TELL-YOU-HIGHLIGHTED-YOUR-HAIR at one glance. 

Wei Ling helped me to choose colors that complements my skin tone before coloring and highlighting my hair. 

I like how the coloring and highlight process over at Xpect Studio ain't pricking on my scalp. Unlike other salons, they don't massage hair dye into your hair or pile on leftover dye at your crown area. Frankly speaking, I love coloring my hair but one of the reason why I seldom color my hair apart from the fact that it may make my hair dry is that I can't stand the pricking sensation on my scalp during the coloring process. My pampering session at Xpect Studio ended with a treatment - did I mention that the steamer emits warm air followed by cold air?

I like how it makes me look brighter as a whole, not too over-the-top and still appropriate for work.

Hi lovelies, if you are following me on Instagram, you probably would know that Christmas came early for us bloggers whom were over at Clinique Christmas Carnival.

As we all know, Christmas is all about sharing and giving. Thanks to Clinique, I got to try some eye and lip products from Clinique which I'm going to share my thoughts on them with you today. Hopefully, it gives you some Christmas present shopping ideas on what to get for your girlfriend/wife/mom/aunt/grandmom/sister/girl-friend if you haven't already gotten Christmas presents for them yet.

Clinique All About Shadow Primer For Eyes in 02 Moderately Fair

What is it:

Skin-toned colour primer preps lids for improved shadow application and wear. Creates a neutral base that holds All About Shadow eye colour in place for up to 12 hours. Can be worn alone for a natural yet perfected look. In 4 shades from very fair to deep. Appropriate for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers.

Directions:

Clinique Lid Smoothie Antioxidant 8-hour Eye Color in 11 Currant Affair

What is it:

Directions:

Squeeze tube gently to release a small amount of colour. Use the cooling metal applicator to apply product directly onto lids. Quickly blend with fingertips before formula sets.

Tip: A little goes a long way—start with a small amount and build with additional colour as desired.

My thoughts:

Clinique Lid Smoothie Antioxidant 8-hour Eye Color in Currant Affair is a plum-colored cream eyeshadow. It has a creamy texture which is easy to blend with light to medium pigmentation upon layering.

The plum color doesn't really show up on pictures. It looks very natural in real life and I like the fact that its subtle enough for work on weekdays and yet it dresses up my eyes a little for casual weekends.

If you are sharp enough, you probably realised that I curled my bangs and didn't have mascara on for the weekend look!

In terms of makeup, you will never catch me without the basics on weekdays -

1) BB cream,

2) Blusher (I'm currently on this cream blusher which is freaking awesome! Will blog about it in another post),

3) Lip product(usually a lip stain or lip gloss) and mascara (to help open my small eyes).

Just like how I'm obsessed in finding out about new or the best base makeup products be it make up base, foundation, BB cream or CC cream, I love my blushers and lip products too. When Charissa told me that Clinique Vitamin C Lip Smoothie Antioxidant Lip Color is really amazing, I knew I had to put it on the top of my to try list.

What is it:

Contains the best ingredients, like Vitamin C and powered up antioxidants so lips look and feel their healthy best. This is your recommended daily dose of lusciousness. Brushes on luscious colour and shine in juicy, moisture-rich blends.

Directions:

- For first time use prime brush with colour by twisting barrel several times until product appears.

- Subsequent application requires only 3-4 twists.

- Apply colour to center of lips.

- Use brush tip to outline lips.

My thoughts:

For a lipgloss, I think that Clinique Vitamin C Lip Smoothie Antioxidant Lip Color in 01 Fig-a-licious is rather moisturizing and I like how it doesn't sink into my lip lines.

Fig-a-licious is a MLBB color which looks natural yet there's a subtle hint of color, not too overpowering.

Here's an FOTD of how Clinique Vitamin C Lip Smoothie Antioxidant Lip Color in 01 Fig-a-licious looks like on me.

I like how the brush applicator allow applying of Clinique Vitamin C Lip Smoothie Antioxidant Lip Color to be so easy and neat.

The downside of Clinique Vitamin C Lip Smoothie Antioxidant Lip Color is that in order to get the product out, you have to twist the bottom. You have to be really patient when it comes to dispensing product from Clinique Vitamin C Lip Smoothie Antioxidant Lip Color as sometimes no product comes out despite twisting the bottom a couple of times and before you know it, more product than needed comes out.

In terms of stickiness, I think Clinique Vitamin C Lip Smoothie Antioxidant Lip Color is still pretty acceptable for me. You can press your lips together and bring them apart without feeling too much stickiness but if the wind comes in your way and your hair is not pulled up in a ponytail, the tendency of your hair sticking on your lips is rather high.

In terms of lasting power, it lasts me well from morning to afternoon before I tuck in to lunch.

Clinique Chubby Stick Intense in 06 Roomiest Rose

What is it:

Moderate to full coverage.

Tempt lips with a soft cushion of colour that's not quite sheer, not quite opaque-just the perfect happy medium. Loaded with mango and shea butters so lips feel comfortably soft and smooth. Eight vibrant shades in all.

Directions:

Apply directly to lips. For subtle definition outline lips first, then fill in with natural-looking colour. Never needs sharpening: simply swivel up to reveal more lip colour balm.

My thoughts:

I think that Clinique Chubby Stick Intense has very good color payoff - medium to highly pigmented which is considered excellent for a balm-like product.

I like how Clinique Chubby Stick Intense glide onto my lips without any tugging. It is quite moisturizing and it lasts me for a good 4-5 hours (from morning to before lunch) before the need to reapply only because after I had lunch.

I also like how no sharpening is required - just twist the base to get more product out.

Although it is suggested on Clinique's website to outline your lips first with Chubby Stick before filling in your entire lip, I prefer to fill in my inner lips first, followed by gently outlining my lips to achieve the Korean 'just-bitten' lip makeup look.

Clinique Chubby Stick Intense in Roomiest Rose looks more dressed up when worn as compared to Clinique Vitamin C Lip Smoothie Antioxidant Lip Color. If you were to ask me which is more moisturizing on the lips between Clinique Chubby Stick Intense and Clinique Vitamin C Lip Smoothie Antioxidant Lip Color, I say.. its the latter.

I love both of them actually and I think they look best when worn together - Clinique Vitamin C Lip Smoothie Antioxidant Lip Color in Fig-a-licious layered on top of Clinique Chubby Stick Intense in Roomiest Rose.

Jane Clare Blueberry Revital Firming Mask is a cellulose mask. After using this mask, my skin felt plumper, softer and very moisturized. It also made my skin look slightly brighter and I realised that my pores looked smaller. I can't say the same when it comes to firmness though.

I would definitely recommend this if you are looking for a moisturizing mask but no if you're looking for a firming mask.

I like how it makes my skin feel very smooth after rinsing it off!

Morii Platinum Essence Facial Mask *MY PICK*

What is it:

Most concentrated on whitening and hydrates to lift, firm and micro-sculpt your look for younger-looking skin.

My thoughts:

I usually steer clear of anything that says whitening or brightening as somehow my skin can only take whitening/brightening products from certain brands such as SKII and Fancl. Other brands in general would make my skin very dry till the extent that it peels. On the night before any major event, I usually have a brightening facial mask on to prep myself for that event.

I was rather apprehensive to try Morii Platinum Essence Facial Mask out initially as I haven't heard of this brand prior to this though it had an uncanny resemblance to Dr Morita.

In terms of brightening, I say Morii Platinum Essence Facial Mask does a very good job in brightening up my skin tone! In fact, I am surprised at how Morii Platinum Essence Facial Mask manages to moisturize my skin and make my complexion brighter at the same time.

Again, I will recommend this if you're looking for a brightening mask but I'm not too sure about the firming part as I don't really see any visible difference before and after using  Morii Platinum Essence Facial Mask. 

Morii Lifting Crystal Eye Patches For Dark Pouches

What is it:

Can boost skin’s natural powers of regeneration so it regains the qualities of young skin. The skin looks rested, smoother and youthfully luminous. It also brightens up dark pouches.

Annie's Way Q10 Anti-Aging Jelly Mask

 

What is it:

It is designed for aged and wrinkled skin and can whiten, moisturize and minimizes fine lines.

My thoughts:

Annie's Way Q10 Anti-Aging Jelly Mask is like your usual sleeping mask except that it has to be removed after 30 minutes. Compared to the rest of the masks that I have tried and mentioned in this post, this has got to be the messiest mask. It doesn't really dry up nor does it absorb into your skin readily hence your hair will tend to stick onto your face. Although Annie's Way Q10 Anti-Aging Jelly Mask does help to moisturize my skin, I did not observe any whitening or reduction in fine lines after using it. 

EGO SunSense Ultra SPF 50+

What is it:

SunSense Ultra is light, smooth, easy-to-apply milk that provides very high sun protection factor SPF50+ and has four hours of water resistance.

QV Face Purifying Mask

 

What is it:

QV Face Purifying Mask removes dirt and excess oil, leaving skin smooth and soft to touch. It not only cleans the skin, but also adds moisture with the help of safflower oil and Vitamin E.

Dejavu Keep Style Mascara review

I admit I wasn't having high hopes on Dejavu Keep Style Mascara the first time I saw its natural bristles mascara wand as I have Asian (stick-straight) lashes and most of the time, only mascaras with plastic comb wand does the job. Plus, I'm so used to mascaras with plastic comb wands as I find them easier to control. 

Here's how my lashes look like after applying two coats of Dejavu Keep Style Mascara.

I have been asked what do I mean when I say - two coats. First, I apply a coat of mascara on my eyelashes on the right eye, starting from the root of my lashes to the tip of my lashes and I repeat the same for my eyelashes on the left eye while waiting for the mascara on my eyelashes on the right eye to be semi-dry then I apply the second coat of mascara starting from 1/2 or 3/4 the length of my eyelashes to lengthen it.

In terms of scent, I would say that Dejavu Keep Style Mascara ain't exactly what you would describe as one with a nice scent. I can't really describe the scent but somewhat it reminds me of newly purchased oil pastels and graphite art pencils.

The formula of Dejavu Keep Style Mascara is more to the dry side which I like as it clings onto each of my lashes and separate them instead of clumping them up together. 

I also like how Dejavu Keep Style Mascara wand helps to make my eyelashes more curled after using an eyelash curler. However, as Dejavu Keep Style Mascara's wand is rather big and fat, I tend to get mascara on my upper eyelids during application especially when trying to get up close to the roots.

In terms of lengthening and voluming, Dejavu Keep Style Mascara does a good job in lengthening my lashes and provide slight volume. 

Although Dejavu Keep Style Mascara doesn't smudge on me, I do experience mascara fall-out about twice throughout the day. I have to say that Dejavu Keep Style Mascara has got very good curling power. It holds my eyelashes up for the entire day!

A lot of girls skip mascara all together, reason being - removal is too tedious. Not to worry because Dejavu Keep Style Mascara is very easy to remove - just use tap water at room temperature and it washes out!

ESTESSiMO TiNS is a Japanese brand known for its glitter nail polishes and is popular with Japanese pop idols such as Ayumi Hamasaki.

I first came across Zoya over at BeautyAsia when I was told that Zoya Nail Polish and nail care and nail polish removers are free of toluene, formaldehyde, DBP and camphor hence it is safe for children and even pregnant ladies!

I'm totally digging 92 and 93. These orange reminds me so much of Kpop and what Korean actresses wear.

In case you are wondering why is there a dressing table in a nail parlour, that is because Nailz Treats Bedok Mall offers make up services too! How convenient it is, no? Especially for that year end dinner, DnD or prom night! 

Having said that, let me take you through a quick virtual tour on getting to Nailz Treats Bedok Mall. Not all the shops in Bedok Mall are opened yet and there are parts of the mall which are still undergoing renovation. I was told that it will be an integrated retail-residential-transport development (how exciting!). To avoid confusion and to save you some time and trouble in locating Nailz Treats in Bedok Mall, here's my mini guide to getting to Nailz Treats.

Getting to Nailz Treats:

I alighted at the bus stop outside Bedok Mall so this is what greeted me upon alighting from the bus and walking towards Bedok Mall's entrance.

1) You will see Nene Chicken. Continue to walk straight.

2) Turn right and enter the mall upon seeing the first entrance after Nene Chicken.

3) Take the escalator down

4) Walk straight until you see Yoguru and turn left to take the escalator down.

5) After coming down from the escalator, you will see this shop called Young Generation and Nailz Treats is just beside it.

If you are coming from the other side, Nailz Treats is opposite Crystal Jade Kitchen.

We girls all love pampering ourselves once in a while be it indulging in a facial or manicure/pedicure apart from shopping, don't we? After dropping by Nailz Treats, I went to check out Nene Chicken. I have been wanting to check out the one over at The Star Vista for quite sometime and now they have an outlet at Bedok Mall.

I fell in love with Korean Fried Chicken the first time I tried it at Two Two Chicken in Myeongdong, Korea. Thank God that there are various Korean Fried Chicken chains popping up in Singapore to satisfy my KFC craving.

I ordered the 2 piece Swicy Classic Fried Chicken ($7.90).

 

It comes with a drink, fries and radish (my favourite)! When I was in Korea, I was told that radish is provided to ease the spiciness and true enough, it does! I thmink it helps with digestion too.

If you were to ask me if Nene Chicken is worth a try, here's my take on it. If you like the texture of KFC Spicy 2 piece chicken, you will like Nene Chicken. Personally, I prefer Fried Chicken that has a crispier texture to it. I like the Swicy sauce though, it taste sweet yet it isn't too spicy - great for people like me whom can't take too much spiciness.

Apart from Nene Chicken, I have tried Korean Fried Chicken from a couple of different places which include Bonchon Chicken at Bugis+ and 4Fingers (Plaza Singapura, Ion Orchard).

I say.. the best Korean Fried Chicken in Singapore goes to - 4Fingers! I like how their Fried Chicken ain't too oily and that it is very crispy! 

Aside from Fried Chicken, I am a big fan of traditional Korean food too. Think bulgogi, japchae and kimchi or seafood pancakes as well as side dishes such as kimchi (both cabbage and radish) and anchovies.
